Anne Vieux x Justkids.
New York based contemporary artist ​Anne Vieux recently contributed a public art intervention to Downtown Bentonville, Arkansas’s growing portfolio of outdoor art experiences. ​Curated by Charlotte Dutoit of global women-led curator group ​Justkids​, and commissioned by local art organization ​Oz Art​, ​ “/meta_material” i​s an immersive holographic mural installation conceived by the artist and integrated the architectural Skylight Cinema building and its ​concrete finish walls​.
Working across painting, installation, textiles and sculptures, Anne Vieux is interested in exploring light as a medium to create abstract works of art with her signature undulating purple, pink and blue hues. Using digital copies of shiny aluminum papers, she creates fields of color from a multi-layered process and exports digitalized aesthetics into the physical space.
When tasked with transforming the Skylight building, the artist pushed the limits of the image data to create a captivating illusion of a hyper-fluid space by applying her painting to the structure using vinyl. Crossing the boundaries between real and virtual “​/meta_material” invites the viewer to immerse in its painterly effect and to question the very nature of perception itself.
“In this piece, I wanted to disrupt the solid geometries of the architecture with a hyperreal fluid painting placed in the landscape. There are two color schemes presenting two very close realities; one in cool tones, scaled up, and another in earthen tones, inverted and zooming out, repeating in the columns. I reflected on these ideas in a cultural/political context, thinking that a larger takeaway of this piece is that through disrupting and dissolving boundaries we can create a fluid open space where there’s room to unite.” said the artist about the creative process.
“Anne Vieux’s experimental outdoor piece brings a unique approach to traditional public art and murals. While inviting Bentonville’s residents and visitors to a visual escape, she is making a splash by setting a new paradigm in the field” expressed Justkids curator Charlotte Dutoit said on the decision to bring forward this art project.
This is not the first time Justkids has worked to bring public art to Arkansas. Since 2015 they have curated and produced ​over 50 pieces from sculptures to installations, performances, murals and exhibitions for institutions, cities and organizations of the region.
The piece is part of ARkanvas, a statewide engagement curated by Justkids and commissioned by OZ Art in partnership with Unexpected, bringing public art by world-renowned artists to Arkansas communities.

Putting together a special, purpose-built altar is a great way to connect with an individual face of the Divine. You can make an altar for your patron God or Goddess, or another deity who you're interested in learning more about. Altars can be as grand or as humble as you want them to be. You can take them down after a few days, or keep them up indefinitely. All you need is a few supplies and a bit of inspiration.
1. Choose a space.
The type of altar you construct is going to depend on the space available to you.  So consider where your altar will be located. Will it be indoors or outdoors?  Large or small?  Public or hidden from view? Do you plan to work magick at your altar, provide offerings, or just display it?
Don't get discouraged if you don't have much space. A bookshelf, hearth, window niche, or small table makes a convenient altar. But we've also seen perfectly charming altars made from potted plants, cigar boxes, car dashboards, and more!
When choosing the location and materials, consider your deity's preferred environment. A Cernunnos altar would be best if placed outdoors, while Hestia would definitely be more comfortable near the fireplace. (But you gotta work with what you got.)
2. Invite your deity.
Once you've selected and cleared a space, you're ready to invite your deity. The Gods and Goddesses are a lot like us—most of them love to hear their names and see images of themselves. So, your chosen God or Goddess should be represented somewhere on the altar.
If you have a favorite statue or painting of Her, it would make a lovely focal point for the altar.  But simpler representations are fine, too. You can use an oracle card or other printed image. If you can't find the perfect visual, you can even spell out the God's name with Scrabble tiles or runes. Sometimes you may want to keep the altar secret from co-workers or housemates. If that's the case, try a subtler symbol of the deity—for instance, a peacock for Juno.
Part of inviting the deity is dedicating the space to His or Her use, and yours.  Dedications can be wordy and elaborate, or very informal: "Good evening, blessed Isis. I've made this altar in honor of you. I hope you like it!"
3. Decorate your altar.
This is the fun part: Gather anything that reminds you of your chosen deity, and arrange it in a pleasing fashion. An altar without decorations is like an unfurnished house! Paints and fabrics, crystals, candles, ritual tools, herbs, food, and drink—any of these things can go on a deity altar. Making a deity altar is a looser affair than some other types of altars, since the primary purpose is usually devotional rather than functional.
If you have a working relationship with the God or Goddess, you may already have some ideas about the things that He or She likes. An altar is where humans and Gods meet halfway, so anything you put should appeal to you as well as Her.
Need some inspiration? Just think about what you know about the God or Goddess. What part of the world is She from? What objects are used in His rituals? Is there any color, season, plant or animal that is particularly associated with Her? You can represent the Elements on your deity altar, but you don't have to--especially if the God or Goddess is tied to just one or two of the Elements. Nor does a deity altar need to be changed seasonally. (But do keep it tidy and dust-free.)

Perhaps not an impressive street mural per se, this phrase, graffitied on the side of Jo’s Coffee on South Congress Avenue in Austin, Texas, has become one of the most famous pieces of street art in the world and an attraction in its own right. Apparently, the owners of the coffee shop, who are a couple, got into a fight and one of them painted this love declaration on the side of the building.

Guido van Helten, “No Exit” – Reykjavik, Iceland
These beautiful black-and-white murals are based on Andrés Kolbeinsson’s photographs of a local production of the Jean-Paul Sartre play “No Exit” in the 1960s. They are located on the Loftkastalinn building, a former theatre space in Reykjavik, Iceland and were pained in the winter of 2013-14.

Dmitri Vrubel, “My God, Help Me to Survive This Deadly Love” – Berlin, Germany
This political mural depicts a 1979 photograph where Leonid Brezhnev, the General Secretary of the Soviet Union, and Erich Honecker, the General Secretary of the Socialist Unity Party of the German Democratic Republic, share a socialist fraternal kiss.
It is located on the eastern side of the Berlin Wall and has become an emblem of the city.

Banksy, “Girl with Balloon” – London, UK
Arguably one of the most famous murals in recent years, Banksy’s Girl with Balloon was first painted on Waterloo Bridge in 2002, and other similar murals were also painted around London, although none remain today. In fact, in 2018, a framed copy of the painting spontaneously shredded while it was being auctioned, thanks to a mechanical device that the artist had hidden in the frame.

El Mac & Gene Pendon, “Leonard Cohen” – Montreal, CA
Montreal is a city renowned for its street art and holds the annual Mural street art festival. In recent years, two gigantic murals honouring the late Canadian singer, songwriter, poet and novelist Leonard Cohen have sprung up on building façades. The most impressive one is located on Crescent Street and can be admired from the city’s Kondiaronk belvedere.

Keith Haring, “We the Youth” – Philadelphia, USA
Created in 1987 in collaboration with the CityKids Foundation and restored in 2013, We the Youth is the only Keith Haring mural that remains intact in its original site. The mural was painted to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the United States Constitution and is a play on the phrase “We the people.”
The mural is located at 22nd and Ellsworth Streets in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

July 6–October 23, 2021 Via Francesco Crispi 16, Rome __________ It’s all about what you want to believe. —Damien Hirst Gagosian is pleased to present Forgiving and Forgetting, an exhibition of sculptures and new paintings by Damien Hirst. The presentation coincides with Archaeology Now, on view from June 8 to November 7, 2021, which intersperses more than eighty paintings and sculptures by Hirst among the historical collections of the Galleria Borghese in Rome. Forgiving and Forgetting includes works from Hirst’s Treasures from the Wreck of the Unbelievable, a project that presented sculptural relics from a fictional shipwreck off the coast of East Africa, playing fast and loose with linear time, cultural origin, and perceptions of relative status and value. Foregrounding these sculptures against an intricately woven tale of seafaring exploits, marine excavation, and laborious research, Hirst aimed to invoke feelings of wonder at their meticulous physical and conceptual fabrication. The series debuted in 2017 with a suite of Treasures—ranging from pastiches of ancient and classical busts, masks, and statues to representations of iconic Disney cartoon characters—rendered in an extraordinary array of materials, many encrusted with colorful blooms of skillfully painted barnacles, as if salvaged from the ocean floor. Forgiving and Forgetting marks an ambitious phase in Hirst’s body of work; these sculptures are carved out of pink Portuguese marble and white Carrara marble, immortalizing each figure in one of the most storied materials in Western art history.
Each subject in its monochrome marble assumes the same gravitas; the playful wave of a coral-laden Minnie Mouse is echoed elsewhere in the gallery by the outstretched hand of the female centaur Hylonome, whose statuesque form conjures both Baroque corporeality and the stately symmetry of French Neoclassical sculpture. Sparking unexpected interactions between ancient and modern, Hirst’s Treasures exemplify the idea of mythmaking that lies at the core of culture, both high and low. Hirst will also reveal his latest series, the Reverence Paintings. Originally seeking to reimagine the vibrant Cherry Blossoms in allover white, he began to overlay shifting dabs of color and flecks of gold leaf across the otherwise monochrome canvases, allowing them to take on a vivid and shimmering dynamism. Covered with bright impasto dots that add both perspectival grounding and visual haze to each composition, the Reverence Paintings underscore Hirst’s acute sense of color, expanding upon the expressionistic and pointillist impulses that have inspired his recent bodies of work. Long seen as a bucolic, oceanside respite for New York’s wealthiest, the Hamptons has historically been maintained by an often-unseen group of working-class people, many of them people of color. The under-known stories of the area’s Black, Indigenous, and Latinx residents, whose labor makes these networks of towns and hamlets so inviting, is currently the focus of artist Tomashi Jackson’s latest solo show.
That multi-part exhibition, “The Land Claim” at the Parrish Art Museum in Water Mill (on view through November 7), features seven paintings, a vinyl window installation, an outdoor audio work, and archival materials. All of the work draws on extensive research by Jackson and her team, which included connecting with community members to conduct oral histories. As with her past work, Jackson’s latest paintings are layered compositions that feel at once abstract and figurative. Archival photographs painted in a bright halftones peek out behind vinyl panels printed with other images. The geometric effect is softened by Jackson’s incorporation of materials—paper bags, burlap sacks, soil, wampum dust, and more—into the canvases.
These works grew out of a 2017 visit to the Hamptons with Parrish curator Corinne Erni, who told Jackson about something that is a regular occurrence for the area’s Latinx population: traffic stops. The community continues to be disproportionately targeted; a class action lawsuit in 2015 revealed that Latinos were also being robbed during these traffic stops. Because a significant portion of the population is undocumented, these stops often led to their being detained by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
“People are getting disappeared, yet there’s no visual representation, no photos, no videos—just data,” Jackson told ARTnews in a recent phone interview.

SEATTLE … As Yonder Cider and Bale Breaker Brewing Co prepare to move into their new joint taproom in the Ballard Brewing District, they are excited to announce the auctioning of a popular narboo painting to raise money for the Ballard Food Bank. Located at the former home of Populuxe Brewing, the well-known painting by local artist narboo depicts a community built around beverage and will now go toward further supporting that local community. Now live online, the auction will be active through July 28, with a live event on July 20 to help raise awareness for the Ballard Food Bank’s new location, share details about the new taproom and more.   “Everyone seems to know this narboo painting and we love the message it shares,” said Caitlin Braam, founder of Yonder Cider. “Unfortunately, due to construction, the painting needed to be removed, but we’re just so happy it is able to be moved and auctioned off to benefit such an important local organization that has been so vital during these times.”     The Ballard Food Bank – which provides hope to the Ballard neighborhood and beyond through access to nutritious food – is in the process of building out its new home at 1400 NW Leary Way. Already bursting at the seams, the pandemic increased the urgency for a new home for the Ballard Food Bank as demands for food and other basic resources grew exponentially, now seeing more than 6,400 visits and deliveries each month. As they near Fall 2021 deadline to complete construction and move in, they are seeking donations to help complete the build out before their current lease ends.   “We are incredibly grateful to Yonder Cider and Bale Breaker Brewing Co for supporting our new space through this fun, local community auction,” said Jen Muzia, Executive Director of Ballard Food Bank. “Not only will our new and larger facility allow the Food Bank to provide nutritious food for even more of our neighbors, but it will also enable us to expand our wrap-around services that aim to prevent homelessness and connect folks to other needed resources as well.”   The mural, painted by narboo in 2015, carries an important message that Yonder Cider and Bale Breaker hope to carry into the new space. “I wanted the painting to be colorful and full of characters like most of my work,” said local Seattle artist narboo. “I knew Populuxe was going to be a destination for families, locals and tourists and I wanted to showcase this in the piece. It’s basically just all kinds of animals getting along having fun and making memories. That’s what life is all about. If I can bring a smile to someone’s face then I’ve done my job as an artist. The world needs more smiles.”   The auction is now live and will close on Wednesday, July 28. Details of the painting can be found on the auction page. The live event is scheduled for July 20 will take place at 6pm, featuring the Yonder and Bale Breaker team, preview of the new Ballard Food Bank, a chat with Narboo himself, and a few sneak peaks of some of the beers and ciders to be available at the new taproom.   Located at 826 NW 49th Street, the joint taproom – scheduled to open late summer – will bring more than 30 taps of Washington-made beer and cider together under one roof, showcasing the best of apples and hops grown in the state. Secret love is a theme that seems explicitly connected to Karlie. There’s not much mention of it in any 1989 song except for Wildest Dreams, which I’d argue, was written early into Karlie and Taylor’s flirtationship where, after Dianna, Taylor was unconvinced that her love with another woman would lead to anything long-term. Wildest Dreams talks about her seeing her relationship with Karlie as a temporary thing that has to end eventually. Ready For It connects to this almost word for word. 
Dress talks about being in a situation with someone where you are both friends, and possibly hooking up, but that line between friendship and relationship hasn’t explicitly been crossed yet. I’m assuming the connection between “say you’ll remember me, standing in a nice dress” and “I only bought this dress so you could take it off” is on purpose. Taylor was making the most of their limited time together, still not seeing it going much further.
King of My Heart is clearly about Karlie, if not just for the connection to the city. It also connects to the timeline of how they got together, detailed in various songs across reputation and Lover, where they sit on the roof and have a serious conversation before they fully jump into things. 
So first line = about Karlie.

I haven’t been through illicit affairs thoroughly enough yet to confirm that it’s about Karlie, but I would say the song leans that way. 
However, “without reason” seems to connect to Wonderland in so many places, but especially given the context of the line before, specifically to “Didn’t they tell us ‘don’t rush into things?’ / Didn’t you flash your green eyes at me? / Haven’t you heard what becomes of curious minds?”
So, with that in mind, this line could refer to either Dianna or Karlie, but I’m going to go with Dianna, based on the line that follows:
Oh, twenty five3 years old
Oh, how were you to know? And
[3] Taylor was twenty five when Kissgate happened. However, Dianna was also both twenty five when she started dating Taylor, and twenty five when Shirtgate happened. I think this line could be taken as her talking to either herself or Dianna. 
However, it should be kept in mind that Taylor rarely refers to the ages of her lovers in her songs, preferring instead to refer reflexively to herself – “I don’t know about you, but I’m feeling twenty two” “I’m only seventeen, I don’t know anything” “When you’re fifteen” “It’s like I’m seventeen, nobody understands.”
The “how were you to know” also seems to imply a sense of youthfulness and naivete. Whoever was twenty five wasn’t old enough to know what would happen. Perhaps here she’s reflecting on the fact that now, at the same age that Dianna was when they began dating, she seems to know just as little. While Dianna may have seemed older and more worldly to her when they started dating, now at the same age, Taylor has made the same mistakes she did. I think here she is talking both to Dianna and to herself.

Okay, there is so much work that metaphor is doing in these three lines here, so let’s go through them one by one.
[4] Ice and frozen-ness as a theme doesn’t really show up until reputation. However, knowing that Dianna is often associated with water/a storm throughout Red and 1989 makes this line interesting. On one hand, Taylor could be saying here that whatever water/storm that was her love for Dianna had stopped moving, which is backed up by the fact that throughout the Speak Now album, Taylor refers to someone being “cold” when they are at a low point, or a relationship is dying.

Karlie assumed things were going to be fine. Taylor, who had alternative bad experiences that ruined her relationship with Dianna, had a bad feeling.

And this is where the Kissgate imagery comes in, because with Josh Kushner (Karlie’s insurance) literally standing right behind them the whole night, the 1975 concert becomes the perfect (and public) representation of this, which is perhaps why Taylor chose dancing as a metaphor to begin with:

Think again of the metaphor of the New Year’s Eve party – Taylor associates their early glass closet relationship with snow and frozen-ness because thoughts of Dianna were still lingering, even up to this point. Even in little tiny frozen flakes, the water was still there.
[16] I think this line may refer to a conversation between Karlie and Taylor before Kissgate, where Taylor voiced these fears, a “mess” of anxiety, and became scared Karlie would leave her (think The Archer). 
This could also refer to Taylor still being “a mess” about Dianna when she got together with Karlie.
[17] Karlie is the sun. Taylor is merely orbiting. Throughout this song, the implication is that Taylor has been listening to Karlie, taking cues from her, following her plan, despite her own intuitions. Think hoax – “You knew you won, so what’s the point of keeping score?” – despite the games Karlie and Taylor were playing early in their relationship, and despite Taylor still having feelings for Dianna, Taylor fell for Karlie harder and faster than Karlie fell for her, and most likely this was why she jumped in headfirst without listening to her intuition.

[19] Okay, so here we go. Karlie as the “fire” time! Let’s look at this progression of lyrics that lead up to this song, not looking at when these songs were written, but just how the metaphor progresses:
This Is What You Came For: “Lightning strikes everytime she moves”
Dress: “And, if I get burned, at least we were electrifying”
Wildest Dreams: “You see me in hindsight / tangled up with you all night / Burning it down”
I am not including Call It What You Want here and the most obvious metaphor, because that one clearly takes place post-#TaylorSwiftIsOverParty. 
Either way, it seems clear that Taylor saw their early relationship as something dangerous and electrifying, that the room “burning down” was an inevitability in Wildest Dreams (think Blank Space’s “So it’s gonna be forever, or it’s gonna go down in flames”). Here, it is almost implied that Taylor didn’t sway with her as the room burned down, that they both actively distanced themselves from “the room” and avoided getting burned:
[20] This line puzzles me the most, because immediately, in context, it reminds me of Clean, but clean wasn’t about facing media scrutiny with Dianna, Clean was about getting over Dianna. In Clean Taylor doesn’t hide away from the water the way she seems to have in the fire metaphor above. She let it wash over her. 
Perhaps a case could be made that the situation of Clean was something that needed to happen due to media scrutiny, and that then here Taylor references getting ready to be separated from Karlie and get over her, but that doesn’t work because the line specifically says she’d hold her as the water rushes in. Same works for applying any sort of metaphor for it to Dianna. 
However, I will admit that Wonderland’s “You held on tight to me / ‘Cause nothing’s as it seems / And spinning out of control” does paint a nice parallel to this lyric. Still, in Wonderland there was the difference of Dianna holding onto Taylor as things got out of control, whereas in this song, Taylor wishes she had been able to hold onto Karlie. This makes sense with the timeline, as Taylor didn’t consider herself “over” Dianna until nearly a year after their supposed February 2013 breakup date, and Style was certainly written somewhere in that year. Dianna kept trying to make things work, even after the article came out about them. Taylor wishes, in the aftermath of Kissgate, that she had done that too with Karlie.
So, perhaps, this is a metaphor for the fishbowl/snowglobe breaking? Certainly Kissgate shattered their glass closeting. The grieving theme of Clean could still work here, as Taylor grieves what was her relationship before that night happened, only this time the relationship doesn’t have to end, it just gets to evolve. If the glass closet breaks, the snow globe shatters, they would’ve been out of the closet. Taylor seems to regret that here, saying that, were she to have another chance, she’d come out with Karlie then, instead of the bearding with Calvin Harris that followed.
To me this also implies that this song was written with a lot of hindsight to that moment. We have no idea when this song was written, but I would guess it’s sometime in 2016 or late 2015, after Calvin entered the picture and Taylor was shoved back into the (non-glass) closet. I think that moment is what makes the most sense for why she would’ve been reflecting on Dianna so much, as she was back in a similar situation as she was when she was with Dianna bearding-wise.
So, in conclusion, I would say this song describes the beginning of the push and pull that would eventually break Karlie and Taylor up. Taylor looks back regretfully on the glass closeting and wishes she could return to those times, if not come out herself. Karlie, on the other hand, reveled in the glass closeting specifically because she had Josh as an airtight escape plan. Obviously this would all break them apart later, when Karlie chose that escape plan over dancing with Taylor again.
And then there’s the Dianna piece of it. In reflecting on her past relationship with Dianna, I think Taylor came to the conclusion (based on the parallels with Wonderland in this song), that Dianna would have also held onto her as the water rushed in. While I think it’s unlikely this would happen, the conclusion of Taylor’s fantasy here seems to imply that Dianna would’ve been more open to coming with Taylor in the way Karlie could/would not so in conclusion… Dianna is the red rose in the lakes confirmed?

Wildest Dreams talks about her seeing her relationship with Karlie as a temporary thing that has to end eventually. Ready For It connects to this almost word for word. 
  Dress talks about being in a situation with someone where you are both friends, and possibly hooking up, but that line between friendship and relationship hasn’t explicitly been crossed yet. I’m assuming the connection between “say you’ll remember me, standing in a nice dress” and “I only bought this dress so you could take it off” is on purpose. Taylor was making the most of their limited time together, still not seeing it going much further.
  King of My Heart is clearly about Karlie, if not just for the connection to the city. It also connects to the timeline of how they got together, detailed in various songs across reputation and Lover, where they sit on the roof and have a serious conversation before they fully jump into things. 
  So first line = about Karlie.

Now, while I don’t believe there was actually a kiss that night, I think here Taylor is lamenting that, in her regrets and in her mind, she wishes she actually had kissed Karlie openly that night, as the rest of these metaphors are merely hypothetical.
  [4] Okay, so here we go. Karlie as the “fire” time! Let’s look at this progression of lyrics that lead up to this song, not looking at when these songs were written, but just how the metaphor progresses:
  This Is What You Came For: “Lightning strikes everytime she moves”
Dress: “And, if I get burned, at least we were electrifying”
Wildest Dreams: “You see me in hindsight / tangled up with you all night / Burning it down”
  I am not including Call It What You Want here and the most obvious metaphor, because that one clearly takes place post-#TaylorSwiftIsOverParty. 
  Either way, it seems clear that Taylor saw their early relationship as something dangerous and electrifying, that the room “burning down” was an inevitability in Wildest Dreams (think Blank Space’s “So it’s gonna be forever, or it’s gonna go down in flames”). Here, it is almost implied that Taylor didn’t sway with her as the room burned down, that they both actively distanced themselves from “the room” and avoided getting burned:
  [4] This line puzzles me the most, because immediately, in context, it reminds me of Clean, but clean wasn’t about facing media scrutiny with Dianna, Clean was about getting over Dianna. In Clean Taylor doesn’t hide away from the water the way she seems to have in the fire metaphor above. She let it wash over her. 
  Perhaps a case could be made that the situation of Clean was something that needed to happen due to media scrutiny, and that then here Taylor references getting ready to be separated from Karlie and get over her, but that doesn’t work because the line specifically says she’d hold her as the water rushes in. Same works for applying any sort of metaphor for it to Dianna. 
  However, I will admit that Wonderland’s “You held on tight to me / ‘Cause nothing’s as it seems / And spinning out of control” does paint a nice parallel to this lyric. Still, in Wonderland there was the difference of Dianna holding onto Taylor as things got out of control, whereas in this song, Taylor wishes she had been able to hold onto Karlie. This makes sense with the timeline, as Taylor didn’t consider herself “over” Dianna until nearly a year after their supposed February 2013 breakup date, and Style was certainly written somewhere in that year. Dianna kept trying to make things work, even after the article came out about them. Taylor wishes, in the aftermath of Kissgate, that she had done that too with Karlie.
  So, perhaps, this is a metaphor for the fishbowl/snowglobe breaking? Certainly Kissgate shattered their glass closeting. The grieving theme of Clean could still work here, as Taylor grieves what was her relationship before that night happened, only this time the relationship doesn’t have to end, it just gets to evolve. If the glass closet breaks, the snow globe shatters, they would’ve been out of the closet. Taylor seems to regret that here, saying that, were she to have another chance, she’d come out with Karlie then, instead of the bearding with Calvin Harris that followed.
  To me this also implies that this song was written with a lot of hindsight to that moment. We have no idea when this song was written, but I would guess it’s sometime in 2016 or late 2015, after Calvin entered the picture and Taylor was shoved back into the (non-glass) closet. I think that moment is what makes the most sense for why she would’ve been reflecting on Dianna so much, as she was back in a similar situation as she was when she was with Dianna bearding-wise.
  So, in conclusion, I would say this song describes the beginning of the push and pull that would eventually break Karlie and Taylor up. Taylor looks back regretfully on the glass closeting and wishes she could return to those times, if not come out herself. Karlie, on the other hand, reveled in the glass closeting specifically because she had Josh as an airtight escape plan. Obviously this would all break them apart later, when Karlie chose that escape plan over dancing with Taylor again.
  And then there’s the Dianna piece of it. In reflecting on her past relationship with Dianna, I think Taylor came to the conclusion (based on the parallels with Wonderland in this song), that Dianna would have also held onto her as the water rushed in. While I think it’s unlikely this would happen, the conclusion of Taylor’s fantasy here seems to imply that Dianna would’ve been more open to coming with Taylor in the way Karlie could/would not so in conclusion… Dianna is the red rose in the lakes confirmed?

Thinkpad Yoga 2021, Buying Guidance
It's a banner year for Thinkpad Yoga devices, with a lot of keen changes. The Thinkpad products I've been wanting to see for years, are starting to appear.
As always, my buying advise includes the following:
Lurk the Lenovo website for coupons, and sales. They run all the time, but there is often a day or two where a sale, and a coupon, overlap.
Upgrade the Warranty. I've had to make a dozen warranty calls to Lenovo, for myself, and other folks, and having an upgraded warranty on a Thinkpad makes a big difference. The warranty service is always good in my experience, but it can be amazing for a little more.
This year, get the RAM you want, installed at the time of purchase. The new Intel SoC for a lot of products has a the RAM soldered, and can't be upgraded later.
Lenovo has really embraced Linux compatibility of late. You almost don't even need to check with Thinkpads anymore, they are going to be compatible, fit, and ready to go. Many can be ordered to ship with Linux already on board.
Let’s dig in!
X1 Yoga Gen 6 (14" Intel)
The highlights here are a 16:10 aspect ratio for the display, rechargeable Lenovo Integrated Pen, on board in a silo, Intel Iris Xe Graphics (finally, you guys, finally), and up to 32 GB of RAM (also, finally!). 11th Gen Intel Core i5 and i7 Processors, 1145G7, 1135G7, 1165G7, 1185G7, are top performers in realm of UltraBook ULV options. Depending on your region, there will be 4G / 5G LTE WANN options. Also, there is a 57Wh battery that supports rapid charge with a 65W Adapter.
Those display options though:
14" UHD+ 4K (3840 x 2400) IPS, anti-reflection, anti-smudge, touchscreen with Dolby Vision™, HDR400, 500 nits, 90% DCI P3 Color Gamut, TÜV Rheinland-certified for reduced blue light emissions
14" FHD+ (1920 x 1200) IPS, anti-glare, touchscreen with Privacy Guard, 500 nits
14" FHD+ (1920 x 1200) IPS, anti-glare, touchscreen, 400 nits, TÜV Rheinland-certified for reduced blue light emissions
Those options are according to the website, where the PSREF lists four options, one with 100% DCI P3 Color Gamu, and 1500:1 Contrast Ratio. I'll try to get some clarity on that. All have 100% sRGB Anti-Glare, or Anti-Reflective glass treatments, and so forth. I have a Lenovo Yoga product with a UHD 4K Display, and one with a Low-Power FHD display. For working with home, I like the Low-Power because I can make it dim in a dark room. The 500 nit HDR displays can't be turned down enough to be comfortable for my eyes. Awesome in a bright office, or outdoor environment, not great for working from your couch.

Aluminum chassis, top and bottom, AND Lenovo seems to be getting aluminum anodizing and milling down to a fine science. Normally, aluminum products, made by anyone, are kinda sloppy with seams and fit being a little off. The last few recent Lenovo devices with aluminum chassis have been really good. Good enough to not set off my OCD.
As I write this, there is no build your own option for this model, because they just released it recently.
L13 Yoga Gen 2 (Intel)
If you owned an S1 Yoga (the first Thinkpad Yoga), way back in 2013, and loved it, you'll really like the L13 Yoga Gen 1, or Gen 2. They have the same case color, feel, pen-silo placement, and so forth. The Gen 2 does have an option for Integrated Intel Iris X Graphics, with the 11th Gen G7 SoC. A Thunderbolt 4 port has been added to the Gen 2, and it has a MicroSD card reader, which I really appreciate having. Keyboard on these feels deep and nice, even compared to more expensive Thinkpad Yoga products.

The display option, battery life, and so forth are very last year, but I've seen the Gen 1 as cheap as 700 USD, at retailers.
This is the Thinkpad Yoga if you want to get one just for travel, for a young person, carrying around at college, and similar. My S1 Yoga from 2013 has been loaned out many times, case paint rubbed down to the metal at the corners, and it still runs. The L13 Yoga has the same design language, and in some markets I believe they are actually called S2 Yoga Gen 5 and 6.
X13 Yoga Gen 2 (13" Intel)
Announced back on February 23rd, this 2-in-1 laptop has a lot of people very excited. It kinda has all the things.
Up to 11th Gen Intel (hopefully the nicer G7 SoC, as opposed to the lower powered one, but we'll see), with Integrated Intel Iris X Graphics. Premium graphics option, check.
Up to 32 GB LPDDR4 (4266MHz) RAM. More than 16GB RAM option, check.
52.8 Whr Battery, with rapid charge. Something more than a mid 40 Whr battery, check.
Integrated rechargeable pen stylus. Check.
13.3" 16:10 WQXGA or WUXGA sisplay options, Check. (This is incredible news, btw).
Thunderbolt 4 x2 Ports, check.
LTE WANN option, check.
Lighter than 3lb, at 2.65 lb, check.
POWER ON MoC TOUCH FINGER PRINT READER! (Applause, Check)
Black Carbon Fiber Hybrid color / chassis treatment, check
This is the Thinkpad Yoga I have been dreaming about since 2015. I can't think of a single thing I would add or take away from it. It might be perfect.

X1 Titanium Yoga (13.5" Intel) Gen 1
There's a lot to talk about here, but the main reason to get one of these is the 3:2 Aspect Ratio display option.
The 13.5" QHD (2256 x 1504) IPS, anti-reflective, anti-smudge, touchscreen with Dolby Vision, 450 nits has 1200:1 contrast ratio (better than average), with 72% NTSC Color Gamut (average).

But, it's a 3:2 aspect ratio, 2-in-1 Thinkpad Yoga. That said, I haven't held one in my hands, or used one. The general warning with some of the Thinkpad Yoga products for 2021, the keyboard isn't as deep or nice as usual. With how thin and light they are getting Thinkpads, that isn't a surprise. I suspect that this model might have that issue. If you're all right with a shallower feeling keyboard, and just gotta have a 3:2 aspect ratio 2-in-1, maybe pull the trigger on this one.
X1 Nano Gen 1 (13" Nano)
This isn't a Thinkpad Yoga, but because of the Thinkvision M14t portable pen display, I feel like the Nano needs to get talked about a little bit. The non-touch screen, WiFi only model, is 1.99 lbs. The M14t portable pen display is about a 1.5 lb. With a Nano and a an M14t display, one could have a dual-display option, all Think branded, for about the same weight as an X1 Yoga Gen 6. Also, the Thinkpad Nano has a really nice 2K (I love 2k) 16:10 aspect ratio, low power, 100% sRGB color gamut, display.

Having a portal rig that light, with a dual-display set up would be amazing. I could have my basis pics and reference work on the Nano's display, while I was drawing or writing on the M14t. If you're a digital artist that works with two display, one above the other, this could be a silver bullet for working mobile. There is a touch-screen model for the Nano, but I don't recommend getting that to work with a pen display.
Windows 10 really struggles to parse more than one touch screen, or pen display, connected. Getting your pen stylus buttons to work is tough. If the X1 Nano + M14t Setup sounds awesome, get the non-touch display option. It's lighter, and your pen stylus settings should just work on the portable display without fiddling. The M14t display monitor is a really good buy, just in general, because it is one of those products that doesn't come around too often.
Finding an M14t monitor could be tricky. It is often sold out, so some hunting and lurking online may be required.

Non-Yoga Thinkpads
The standout models here are basically anything with an AMD chipset (yay, options!), and the the Thinkpad T15g.
I've recommended a few AMD models since they've been a regular offering in different Thinkpad lines. All good news, people are happy, and I'm much relieved the recommendations worked out. I figured they would, but like most folks that live in Thinkpad Land, we're a little nervous about big changes.
What I'm not nervous about is the Thinkpad T15g.
It's a desktop replacement option that isn't in the X1 line (and limited in configuration options), or in the P Series (expensive, NVIDIA Quadro standard). It has processor options that range from the Core i5-10400H up to a Xeon W-10885M. It's listed as being compatible with all the Linux, Fedora, Red Hat Enterprise, Ubuntu, and so forth.
Graphics Options are NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2070 or 2080 SUPER Max-Q.
It can have up to 128 GB of RAM, DDR4 or ECC for models with a Xeon Processor.
Up to two M.2 2280 SSD drives, with 2 TB each.
There's standard FHD display options, a UHD option, and an OLED UHD option with a 100,000:1 Contrast Ratio, 100% DCI-P3 Color Gamut. With that particular option, a pen stylus will work on it.
The Thinkpad T15g is big (6 lb), and ugly (standard Thinkpad Black chassis finish), but you could work, and game on it with pretty equal ability. It's a Thinkpad ... but for gaming, too?

Conservative Americans Now Labeled “Domestic Terrorists” The long-awaited transition of power finally occurred in the United States on January 20, 2021 when Joe Biden and Kamala Harris were sworn in as president and vice president. Two weeks before on January 6, a large number of Donald Trump’s supporters rallied in Washington DC to protest what they believed to be a stolen election by the Democrats. A small fraction of the demonstrators were let into (or broke into) the Capitol Building and staged a riot which was eventually ended by security forces with a small number of casualties. It is clear that the media and political reactions and the possible long-term effects on freedom of speech are more interesting than the riot itself. Speaking with Geoff Young, a US antiwar activist who ran for the Kentucky House of Representatives in 2012, and several times for the US House of Representatives, and Governor of Kentucky in 2015 and 2019, some additional insight can be added. He hasn’t won any elections yet, but he has discovered in campaigning how corrupt the Democratic and Republican Parties are when it comes to vote rigging. He currently has active lawsuits against both the Kentucky “Democratic” Party (KDP) and the Republican Party of Kentucky (RPK). Mr. Young, what is going on here? One just has to carefully evaluate the media, not only MSM. It’s easy to notice that the framing of the “domestic terrorism” issue is being promoted by public television and radio stations as well as the usual mainstream media corporations, most of which are openly biased in favor of the Democrat Party. As Glenn Greenwald wrote in a January 19, 2021 article called, “The New Domestic War on Terror Is Coming,” “The more honest proponents of this new domestic War on Terror are explicitly admitting that they want to model it on the first one. A New York Times reporter noted on Monday that a “former intelligence official on PBS NewsHour” said “that the US should think about a ‘9/11 Commission’ for domestic extremism and consider applying some of the lessons from the fight against al-Qaeda here at home.” Are they suggesting that the CIA should fire missiles from drones at members of the Proud Boys and Antifa without any kind of legal due process? Greenwald went on to note that “former Facebook security official Alex Stamos” emphasized “the need for social media companies to use the same tactics against US citizens that they used to remove ISIS (banned in Russia) from the internet — in collaboration with law enforcement — and that those tactics should be directly aimed at what he calls extremist ‘conservative influencers’.” Glenn Greenwald: “Meanwhile, Congressman Adam Schiff (D-CA) — not just one of the most dishonest members of Congress but also one of the most militaristic and authoritarian — has had a bill proposed since 2019 to simply amend the existing foreign anti-terrorism bill to allow the US Government to invoke exactly the same powers at home against ‘domestic terrorists’.” In a recent airing of Frontline: American Reckoning – A PBS NewsHour Special Report, the narrator said within the first 30 seconds of the show: “Provoking a mob of his supporters, President Trump upended a long tradition of peacefully transferring power.” That anti-Trump framing continued throughout the entire 57-minute broadcast. Do you buy this narrative? There’s no real evidence that Trump ever incited his supporters to break into the Capitol, however, and quite a bit of evidence that he urged them to remain peaceful, nonviolent and loud. If that is the case, then the Democrats’ second impeachment of Donald Trump was as constitutionally and legally unsound as the first one. Both impeachments were exercises in pure partisan politics designed to benefit the fortunes of the Democrat Establishment and damage Trump and the GOP as much as possible. With social media and government agencies working in tandem to restrict foreign and domestic news, and to label journalists who are not toeing the US line as foreign agents, the First Amendment is under attack. President Biden has not expressed any interest in dropping all charges against Julian Assange. Was this a false flag? It is not at all clear who turned the loud, outdoor demonstration on January 6, 2021 into a riot in the Capitol Building. It could have been the Trump supporters, but it could also have been the Capitol Police, other anti-Trump security forces, international experts in color revolutions such as George Soros, the Trump-hating FBI, the Trump-hating CIA, or the DNC. If anti-Trump organizations were the ones who got the large rally to turn violent, the riot would have been a coup against Donald Trump as an individual, not against the American republic. One is reminded of what happened in 1933 – the burning of the German Reichstag. When the German parliamentary building went up in flames, Hitler harnessed the incident to seize power – and that means gaining control of the media and cracking down with laws “to protect society,” and the Constitutional Order (“Ordnung” in German). For this reason, it is not only appropriate but necessary to revisit history, because whenever citizens and politicians feel threatened by executive overreach, the Reichstag Fire is referred to as a cautionary tale. Young concludes, “It seems likely that the Democrats are using the January 6 riot as an excuse to impose something like martial law on the American people and to stifle all criticism of the incoming Democrat administration (or regime).” Analysis and Commentary It is doubtful that any expected FBI investigation into the causes of the riot will ever incriminate the FBI or crisis actors but the very talk may be used to invoke some kind of crackdown on those who “take exception” with the new government and its policies and methods. It should be noted that the PBS broadcast also examined the impact of President Donald Trump’s rhetoric throughout his presidency and the government’s missed opportunities to manage the spread of misinformation and the rise of domestic terrorism. These are valid issues to be discussed; however, all who supported Trump cannot be labeled as fringe groups, totally disgruntled or domestic terrorists. As Time Magazine so accurately describes, “Rolling back those freedoms has served in other countries as a prelude to authoritarianism, and it is easy enough to imagine a future US President deciding to label his opponents terrorists before stripping them of their fundamental rights.” It is an overreaction to be calling for a domestic war on terrorism. Nonetheless, it is easy to collectively take words and actions of Trump’s supporters, even when they renounce the results of a [supposedly] free and fair election and label such discontents as being against the Constitution or legal order. However, let us not forget the double standard, and how former President Trump attempted “to designate Antifa, a loose band of left-wing radicals, as a terrorist organization, a move that civil liberties groups successfully resisted. The larger purpose, however, appears to paint all those groups in the wake of the storming of the Whitehouse on any group which supported Trump, and label all those who will not recant their support as potential domestic terrorists or conspiracy theorists. Even PBS admits there have been double standards in how such breaches of government building are addressed. It would be nice to believe that freedom of speech will continue to mean that people are free to engage in certain forms of protected speech, including criticizing the government and politicians, without control or reprisal by the government, provided they don’t call for direct violence or overthrow. However, that may be short lived, and now Senator Dick Durbin, an Illinois Democrat, plans to reintroduce the Domestic Terrorism Prevention Act, which passed the House last fall but went nowhere in the Senate. Its purpose is to authorize dedicated domestic terrorism offices within the Department of Homeland Security, the Department of Justice, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation to analyze and monitor domestic terrorist activity and require the Federal Government to take steps to prevent domestic terrorism. Biden is keeping to the script, by stating soon thereafter, “don’t dare call them protesters. They were a riotous mob, insurrectionists, {they were] domestic terrorists: It’s that basic. It’s that simple.” However, it is not that simple, in light of the emotions running high in the US. These words may come back to haunt him and his administration, as a self-fulfilling prophesy. And now Biden is just as guilty as Trump for dividing an already divided people, with his own fiery rhetoric: “No one can tell me that if it had been a group of Black Lives Matter protesting, they wouldn’t have been treated very, very differently from the mob of thugs that stormed the Capitol,” the president-elect said The timing and choice of wording is most inopportune and inappropriate, as much of what the US has accused other nations of doing, controlling media, and its people, is fast becoming a US production. In fact it is as if Biden is borrowing pages from Trump own play book. This does not come at at good time, with social media and government agencies working in tandem in restricting foreign news and domestic news, and labeling journalists who are not toeing-the-US line as foreign agents. There have even been instances of where native born US citizens have been sanctioned by the US Treasury Department simply for writing articles and publishing them on Russian media sites. All the while, the plurality of the US media is at its lowest point ever, controlled, manipulated, bought and paid for. There is no longer a fine line between news and blatant propaganda. Being labeled as part of a group that really believes that the US election result was tainted now may put you on a list for a visit from Homeland Security or some anti-terrorist organization. There was no Trump Era! He was merely a papier-mâché cut out puppet, and who out of his bottomless narcissism reined over the corporate media news and talk shows with his Mad Hatter Tweets, using the same Twitter that mobilized the Arab Spring masses to screw up their countries too, a pre-test before fanning it out on a declining ready for figuratively beheading much of the US domestic population over their political preferences. The post Trump period is being compared on PBS to post Civil War, “incitement of insurrection,” and “how US President Grant realized how the KKK was an essential threat to everything that had been achieved by that bloody war, and various commentators claim that that is what the Federal Government is now facing. Those who stormed the White House are described (43:00) as “white nationalists, and there is a need to aggressively pursue and root out this cancerous menace of white nationalism and the “kind of” white extremist militias that are really a functionally revanchist movement in American Society.” All things considered, and the swing of the pendulum, things will not get better with Biden anytime soon, maybe even worse, because the ruling elite in their “close knit societies,” have it all mapped out in detail. It appears as some of the Capitol guards let the fed agent provocateurs, and if some of the crisis actors just waltz right in … and keep in mind that the Reichtag Fire was not engineered by the guards circling and within the Reichtag. There are too many unanswered questions, just look at the US Congress, most of the powerful have been in office for over 50 years, and never leave office, and the newbies, especially in the Democrat party, are former military or CIA trained or Intel Democrats, young and frisky. It is a threatening time (even more than during Trump), and that era is fading; however, it seems America may be in for some rough times with the crackdown on civil liberties because of COVID and the NEW domestic terrorist label. Protecting the American people from themselves is the NEW doublespeak.

My wife Catie’s annual Krampusnacht event last December included a holiday market, and I presented a bin of paintings on chipboard that were folded like heavy 45 sleeves—with mulch+foliage+ploymer record shapes that became too encrusted to fit inside. The images invented an old psychedelic Krampus underground—militant and Luciferian. Dolly appeared as a surprise digression in the wee hours before the deadline. For the past seven years of Krampusnacht, I have sidestepped the European relics in favor of thoughts about American undercurrents—rowdy, sexual, heretical, and perilously savage. But I like to imagine that the deeper magma is something propulsive and generative, rather than malignantly atavistic. An inevitable rebellion against civilized living. With Edra’s prodding, I’m pursuing the Dolly tangent: imagining a history in which the liftoff of her solo career was profoundly controversial—to the point that an enclave of armed male consorts developed around her. Perhaps her audience had detected a Luciferian bent in her, that would need time to transition to a more acceptable yet radical Christianity. EC Brown: I prefer a collision of illustrative image-making that begs attention to narratives, and physical formats that shift these works into roles as implements or tactical objects addressing spaces and situations. Images have been a tempered fever-dream drawing from 1960s–70s aesthetics, pop occultism, science fiction, Modernist architecture, biomimetics, industrial photography and observational cinema. Often they are absurdist historical revisions. Since 2005, I have mostly operated in Chicago’s domestic artspaces. I co-organized Floor Length and Tux (2009–2014, with Catie Olson) and COMA (2006–2008, with Annika Seitz). I periodically organize a roving series entitled ASCII (2011–present). Since 2015, I have been conducting a discreet series out of my home entitled Tascam.

Interpersonal relationships, intergenerational and intersectional eco- and cyber- and xeno- feminism, reproductive justice, therapeutic aesthetics, color field painting, sci-fi tie-dye, hippie modernism, bio-punk, grunge, glam, and disco, are some of the vernaculars that inform my body of work. Since graduating in 2013 from SAIC’s department of Visual and Critical Studies, this organic body has manifested itself in a hybrid and polydisciplinamorous practice, including writing, audio-visual installations, textile-, and sartorial works. Mother is a noun and a verb; I regard my practice as a sourdough, a gestation of material, out of which individual works, texts, and shows are wrought, while the mother remains, active. Lise Haller Baggesen is a Danish born, Amsterdam raised, Chicago based, interdisciplinary artist. Her hybrid practice includes writing, installation, performative, sartorial and textile-based work. She is the author of Mothernism, and exhibits internationally, most recently with the multimedia show HATORADE RETROGRADE: THE MUSICAL, which premiered at SoEx in San Francisco in 2019 and will travel to G400 in Chicago in 2020

I create memorials—fragmented, mischievous, and imperfect realities that reflect both a formal
break from traditional shape, while presenting an assemblage version of our collective social and political thoughts, concerns, and hopes. Although I was trained in the traditions of classical art, my pieces now are not always clean. Or finished. Or beautiful. My work holds the memory of an intimate process of becoming. In some bodies of work, I present obvious nooks and gashes, broad, quick strokes, and secretive, featherlike fingerprints, all of which aided in the modeling of the clay during the process of bringing the subject to life. It is this visceral and intimate approach to materials and form that drive my subjects of memory and memorialization through all of my works. When considering the human form and its relationship to memorialization, immediate thoughts of bronze statues at historical sites come to mind. My fascination, however, is in the way that memory—with its inherent, ever-changing fluidity—disrupts our ability to fully or truthfully freeze, or memorialize people, moments, or perspectives in history. Instead, it is our momentary glimpses of memory and hindsight that drive how we understand the present. As a Mexican immigrant to the United States, my works often rely on my own fragmented memories and stories of home, my direct experiences with fervent Catholicism, and other’s heroic (yet common) anecdotes of border crossing and acclimating to living in America. However, while my memories and relationships to patriotism, politics, my background, and my longing for the familiar certainly influence my work, it is my interest in the process, the poetics of the materials, and the action of sculpting that motivate my continued practice. Born in Mexico in 1981, Rodrigo Lara Zendejas received a MFA from School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC) in 2013. And his BFA from the Universidad de Guanajuato in Mexico in 2003. He has received several awards including: Proyectos Especiales FONCA (Fondo Nacional para la Cultura y las Artes) Mexico City; Emerging Artist Grant, Joan Mitchell Foundation, New York City; Jóvenes Creadores, FONCA, Mexico City; Extraordinary Abilities Visa, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services; Artist’s Grant, Vermont Studio Art Center; James Nelson Raymond Fellowship, 2013 SAIC Fellowship Competition; PECDA Estudios en el extranjero,Instituto Queretano de la Cultura y las Artes; the International Graduate Scholarship, SAIC; and the John W. Kurtich Travel Scholarship, SAIC Berlin/Kassel, Germany; among others. He won the first price in sculpture at the National Award for Visual Arts in Mexico in 2010. Lara held solo exhibitions at institutions such as the Museum of Modern Art in the state of Mexico, Hyde Park Art Center in Chicago, the National Museum of Mexican Art in Chicago, Kruger Gallery in Marfa, Texas, among others. He has been in such residencies as the Vermont Studio Center, ACRE, Ragdale, Cross Currents: Cultural Exchange, Mana Miami, and Rogers Art Loft. Currently, Lara lives and works in Chicago.
